Drake might get made fun of for being a fair weather fan–what’s up, Kentucky?–as well as doing funny things like lint rolling his pants while courtside at an NBA game, but just his presence alone is enough to make the Toronto Raptors cool. Who do you hear playing in arenas? Which artist do the players really respect and love? Who brings hype and creativity to a fanbase desperately looking to make waves across the league? And while his predicted re-branding of the Raptors never materialized in the ways he had expected, Toronto’s new look for next year will be dope, regardless. And brands like Mitchell & Ness couldn’t be happier about it.
First up is the team’s new logo. Though it has drawn criticism for being too similar to Brooklyn’s logo, emphasizing the red was a good move and the claw rips over the basketball is another nice touch. It’s something edgy and yet trendy, and keeps with the team’s tradition while also pushing for the future. The new uniforms are cool, too, but it’s the alternate “Drake” uniform that has us hyped. The black and gold OVO-inspired fit is going to be a must-cop and should stand out a bit on the court next season. It’s not what Drake wanted–which was an all-out re-branding of everything to do with the look and feel–but it’s enough to keep both the rapper (hopefully, at least) and the fans happy.
All of this will be available at Champs Sports over this summer, where you can step up your swag with some fresh gear from Mitchell & Ness to get ready for next season. Toronto might not be title favorites, but they haven’t been this exciting since Half-Man/Half-Amazing was patrolling the airwaves.
