The Only Vince Carter Dunk Ranking You’ll Ever Need

    10. The Shimmy

It’s only right to hit ‘em with the shimmy shake after throwing down a nasty, one-handed 360 dunk. In style, rocking the classic home Raptors jersey, VC brought the house down and got the crowd hyped with one of the better in-game dunks we have ever seen. At No. 10, you know the rest of this list is going to be crazy.

    9. The Grandpa

Not the best dunk on the list, but I had to throw it in the mix. A month out from turning 38 and Vince is still posterizing defenders. The best part about this dunk is that VC was dunking before Rudy Gobert was even born. Don’t feel too bad, Rudy, you are just one of the many ballers that have been embarrassed by the greatest dunker of all time.

    8. The Inbound

This one isn’t even fair. Roy Williams could have made that pass. How do you defend a kid with a 42-inch vertical in arguably the best shape of his life? You don’t. You sit there in awe, pass the ball in, and hope that UNC doesn’t get another dead ball under the hoop the rest of the game. This dunk is freakish.

    7. The (Non-) Finger Wave

If Vince Carter did the classic finger wave at Dikembe Mutombo this would have to be the best 11 seconds of NBA footage on YouTube. Vince goes up, absolutely demolishes one of the best defenders of all time, and gets a priceless reaction from his teammate and buddy Tracy McGrady. Then to top it all off, Vince Carter gives the mean “Do you know who I am?” stare. It can’t be easy to absolutely embarrass a 7-2, four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, but Vince Carter did it with ease.

    6. Air Canada

The title of this video on YT is “Best Reverse Dunk of All Time.” Not sure if I could disagree with that statement. I can think of a couple All-Star dunks and maybe one J.R. Smith dunk that could be thrown into the mix, but this reverse is nasty. The funniest part of the play is that Dirk tried to block it. C’mon Dirk, you should know better.

    5. Double-Pump

Well, this double-pump reverse dunk might just be better than the dunk on Dirk Nowitzki, I stand corrected. In just his 10th NBA game, Raptors rookie Vince Carter announced his presence in the NBA by throwing down a mean double-pump reverse dunk against Reggie Miller’s Pacers. This dunk was foreshadowing the type of career Vince Carter was about to have. Must be nice to be able to fly.

    4. Oops

Filthy. One of the nicest alley-oops of all time. The pass wasn’t very good, which helped the dunk look that much more incredible. This dunk confirms that you can throw a pass in the general vicinity of Vince Carter and he will find it and flush it down empathically.

    3. Alonzo Who?

Rev it up, Vince. Alonzo Mourning is known as being a great defender, but in this situation, he should have just gotten out of the way. Now ‘Zo is on the wrong end of a very good looking poster. Watching this dunk over and over while listening to Meek has me super hype right now.

    2. Dr. Funk

Little known fact: This dunk inspired the Nike Commercial featuring Vince Carter as Dr. Funk. Mind blown.

In a game that was supposed to take place at the legendary Rucker Park (moved to Gauchos Gym due to rain), the infamous Vince Carter unleashed one of the most insane windmill alley-oop dunks ever recorded. The CEO of the pickup league, Greg Marius, said, “We had to clear the court for 10/15 minutes.” The dunk is beyond ridiculous. VC grabs the ball around his shoulder, does a full windmill, and slams down the ball emphatically. Not to mention, he almost hits his head on the rim.

Nike decided to turn the legendary dunk into a commercial featuring the Nike Shox.

    1. The Dunk Heard 'Round the World

I don’t think we will ever see an in-game dunk better than this. It’s not every day that you see someone steal the ball and then dunk OVER a seven-footer. Cleared. There isn’t much I need to say about this one. Bottom line, get out of Vince Carter’s way if he is mid-flight. Happy Birthday to the greatest dunker of all time.

Who comes to mind when debating the top five dunkers in NBA history?

My personal five would be Dominque, MJ, Shawn Kemp, Dr. J, and Vince Carter, with VC probably being the best dunker in that crew. That’s a crazy title to be associated with and I don’t think it has even sunk in considering he is still currently playing in the NBA. If you haven’t seen the UNC alum live, I would highly recommend going to a game before he retires.

I grew up at the perfect time to fully appreciate how special of a dunker VC really was. Watching Vince play alongside his distant cousin Tracy McGrady in Toronto was special and especially scary for opposing teams. The two could combine for 60-70 points on any given night.

The scoring wasn’t even close to the best part about watching these two. They were flashy, cocky, and, most importantly, could jump through the roof of the gym. In the final season that the two stars played together, Vince Carter handily won the 2000 NBA Dunk Contest by performing a 360 windmill, a never-before-seen elbow dunk, and a Jordan-esque foul line dunk. All of that was just scratching the surface of what fans were in store for.

It’s never easy to take a Hall of Famer’s highlight real and cut a top ten list of anything. Michael Jordan’s top 10 shots? Impossible. Tom Brady’s top 10 touchdown throws? Impossible. Derek Jeter’s top 10 plays? Nearly impossible. You catch the drift.

Today, Vince Carter turned 38, which is grandpa status in the National Basketball League. In honor of his birthday, we decided to dedicate a top 10 list to the greatest Vince Carter in-game dunks over the last 25 years. No celebrity games. No warm-up dunks. They have to be in-game, in a game that matters. (Rucker Park counts because those dudes take it way, way too seriously.) Take flight with us here at The Drop. Here we go. This is The Only Vince Carter Dunk Ranking You’ll Ever Need.
