    1. Strong Akron Accents

Last summer, LeBron announced he was returning to Cleveland and set the whole basketball world on fire. It was a great move and made the Cavs instant contenders. What was most important? Realizing how much LeBron really means to the city of Cleveland and his native Akron.

LeBron’s next signature sneaker plays to his city with some great design features throughout the sneaker. There are five unique elements in different locations on the silhouette that showcase his roots. They can be found on the tongue top, tongue embellishment, heel tab, Swoosh graphic, and inside heel.

    2. Colorways

One thing the LeBron 12 did not lack was colorways. LeBron just about shelled out a new colorway for each game and always wore them at the right occasion. For example, the night of the Grammys, Nike, and ‘Bron debuted the LeBron 12 Grammys colorway. You can expect to see the same creative effort with the 13. There are already numerous colorway titles that will be releasing soon after “Written in the Stars” such as the Away, Halloween, Encore, Space Race, and Akronite colorways.

    3. Tech

Nike continues to deliver when it comes to innovative features on LeBron models. The LeBron 13 features a breathable sock-like fit for flexibility and lockdown. The breathable mesh upper holds the foot while the Flywire tech provides an adaptive and superior lockdown. The Hyperposite on the midfoot and collar is another useful element that will adapt to LeBron’s power and speed game. It also provides great durability and support while maintaining flexibility and protection. And then, of course, there are the hexagonal Air pods.

    4. More lightweight

LeBrons are usually heavier compared to other signature sneakers. But this year, LeBron wanted something that matched his progression. The sneaker was inspired by his weight loss last year and the shoe is more lightweight. He told reporters at the unveiling that “As I’m getting older, I want to get lighter. Not only with my body but my shoe as well.”

    6. Larger hex pads

One of the best features on the LeBron 12 was the introduction of the hexagonally-shaped Nike Zoom Air bags in the outsole that provided some extreme explosiveness with each step. This year the LeBron 13 evolved the sizes of the pads and placement around the sneaker. There are four Zoom Air units in the outsole. According to Nike, two of the units are 13 millimeters thick, larger than those in the LeBron 12 in total volume. There is one in the heel and one in the ball of the foot. There are two additional hexagonal pads in the forefoot.

    7. Hidden codes

What is a signature sneaker without hidden symbolism? Stuff like this is what made the Jordan Brand special. Each detail represented a different story and inspiration for MJ. Engraved in the outsole is “LeBron James/Akronite/12-84″ which represents where he is from and the month and year he was born.

    8. Extension of the LeBron 13 will be designed by kids

Another cool element that LeBron is bringing to this year’s silhouette is the help from some of the children in his foundation. Some of the students designed their own LeBron 13 models that will actually come to life in the coming months. This comes after LeBron announced he will be providing full scholarships to college to each child in his foundation.

    9. LeBron won't play as much

While we wait on news to drop on Kyrie’s next silhouette, it is important to know that he will be relied on more than ever this season (once healthy). While LeBron put on one of the best individual performances in a NBA Finals series last June, it was evident that he was missing Irving’s scoring after he went down with an injury. Who knows what the outcome would have been if Irving never got injured? Kyrie is already a superstar on and off the court and it is going to be fun to watch his growth in Year 2 playing with James. LeBron has already mentioned during the Cavs’ media day that once Irving gets back, he will play less minutes this season. (This might even happen before.)

    10. LeBron 13 comes during a pivotal year

There are no excuses this time around. LeBron came back to Cleveland specifically to bring a championship to his hometown. LeBron and his supporting cast all have a year under their belt playing with one another and have looked hungry throughout the offseason. With Kevin Love re-signing, Kyrie returning from injury, and a few more additional pieces, this team has the right players to go even further than last year.

The NBA season is on the horizon, which means that multiple signature sneakers will be dropping just in time for opening tip-off. Kevin Durant broke the ice this summer after unveiling the Nike KD 8 in June followed by its release. John Wall and Derrick Rose both announced their newest models and they will both drop this month. Now it is the King’s turn.

LeBron James and Nike Basketball officially unveiled the LeBron 13 in his native hometown of Akron at the end of last month. The 13 might be one of the most personal sneakers in the LeBron line due to the strong Akron ties throughout the shoe. It is crazy to believe that LeBron is already on sneaker No. 13; when it is all said and done his signature brand will go down as one of the greatest. Once he entered the league the pressure was on him to deliver on and off the court and he has exceeded expectations in every way possible.

The LeBron 12 was a special shoe that was versatile enough for ‘Bron to flex a bit with colorways and hexagonal Air bags on the outsole. The LeBron 13 will look to follow suit and includes some more innovative designs and storylines. With the LeBron 13 “Written in the Stars” colorway and an extensive apparel collection dropping tomorrow at Champs Sports, Here Are 10 Things You Need to Know About the Nike LeBron 13.
