  • Air Jordan Retro XIII
    Air Jordan Retro XIII

    Release Date: October 4

The first of two big AJ13 releases in October, this shoe will feature traditional colorways on a fan favorite sneaker, with a new twist.

An all-silver reflective upper is what immediately stands out, making this retro a must-cop for those sneakerheads who are always looking for something different. But don’t overlook the outsole either, laced as it is with classic Infrared.

  • Nike KD7
    Nike KD7 "Good Apples"

    Release Date: October 4

This is probably the hottest KD7 colorway so far. That Yeezy colorway just works, and the black based-upper gives it a foundation and allows the mint outsole and red accenting to pop. This isn’t intended to be a Christmas release, but I guarantee people will still be rocking it by the end of 2014.

Using the same┬ánew hexagonal Zoom Air cushioning system that can be seen in the LeBron 12 — more on this later — the Hypercross Trainer looks like it’ll be a solid performer on the field. However, it’s in The Prequel because you already know you’re going to be wanting to rock these joints out.

    Air Jordan XX9

Release Date: October 11 [UPDATE: They will now release on Oct. 25]

The XX9 is already being heralded as the best performing basketball shoe of the year, so for anyone out there who is getting ready for the season to start, don’t miss out on this release. This particular colorway, sporting the pink and teal upper, with the large white Jumpman logo and black accents, looks like something Russell Westbrook would wear out. That’s a good thing.

  • Nike KD7
    Nike KD7 "Uprising"

    Release Date: October 16

Kevin Durant has already killed 2014 with a number of dope colorways for his latest signature sneaker, but this release will feature a double-knockout: a jade upper with a volt Nike Swoosh and outsole. With black accents helping to keep the colorway grounded, this one is going to look great off the court.

We are so ready for the return of Derrick Rose. • Nike LeBron 12
Nike LeBron 12 "Heart of a Lion"

    Release Date: October 30

A second LeBron colorway coming out this month? Don’t act so surprised — the crew over at Nike actually unveiled the first seven editions set to drop in 2014, and this one might be our favorite. It probably has to do with the traditional color scheme. While everyone wants something crazy and eye-catching nowadays, there’s always room for the ol’ fashioned home/away colors.

No matter how fly your outfit, no matter how well you can pull off the cuffed pant look, no matter what’s in your wallet, on your head or on your back, if you want to gain a reputation for having style, you must bring the heat.

The sneaker culture in 2014 has never been bigger. Release days feel like the new iPhone release — well, not quite — and every cat is competing with their friends and classmates to have the hottest, most rare stuff on their feet. From adidas Originals to classic Nike silhouettes to the Jordan Brand, it’s important to know your history and know which kicks make the most sense for you. Luckily, that’s where we come in.

At The Drop, we’re always giving you the 411 on where and when and what you need to be copping, and at the start of each month we drop The Prequel, a look into the sneakers that month that everyone needs to be ready for. Last month, that was probably the Air Jordan 14, with two super legit colorways dropping only a few weeks apart. The Ferrari edition had been coming for what felt like a decade, and the Black Toe hadn’t been seen in its original makeup since 1998. And in the months before that, hopefully you got your hands on some of the top Nike KD7 colorways, as well as Robert Griffin III‘s newest signature trainer and the adidas C-10.

However, October is a new month, a new day. Everyone is starting at zero with a clean slate. Get yourself ready by checking out The Prequel: October Sneakers You Must Cop from Champs Sports on the following slides.
