The Prequel: August Sneakers You Need To Watch For

  • Air Jordan XIV
    Air Jordan XIV "Sport Blue"

    Release Date: August 2

In all honesty, the XIV could make any colorway look good. But the XIV dominated by grey? It doesn’t get much better than that. We’re seeing a lot of grey from the Jordan Brand lately but this might be the cleanest edition yet. Simple. Wavy. The versatility of this sneaker will have it grabbing double-takes from August all the way through December.

    Release Date: August 8

We’re so ready to see Robert Griffin III shut up all the doubters this year. With an improved offense — hello DeSean Jackson — and another year removed from his devastating knee injury, it won’t take long for Washington’s leader to reaffirm his status as one of the game’s best players.

On August 8, his newest trainer will be dropping in both white and black colorways, as well as a sick signature colorway for his alma mater, Copperas Cove High School.

Nike KD 7 ”Calm Before the Storm”

    Release Date: August 16

It’s all about telling a story with Kevin Durant’s sneakers. This colorway continues that trend with another weather-inspired edition. With a grey base, and pink accents, the “Calm Before the Storm” represents tranquil skies just before the breakout of a powerful storm. Sound familiar? It’s what many defenders feel when they’re trying to guard the NBA’s best scorer.

Air Jordan Retro VI
Release Date: August 9
The first of two big AJ6 releases in August, this shoe will feature a Red/White/Green colorway that’ll surely turn heads and have you looking hot as you head back to school.

With a varsity red upper — all leather — and a laser sock lining, with accents of black and green, these will also include a translucent upper. They’re going to be fantastic.

Air Jordan III “Sport Blue”
Release Date: August 16
The III returns in a big way this month with what could be seen as a classic colorway: the black/blue/white makeover. This sneaker is dropping in a new look, but it has all of the ingredients of a classic, with the elephant print and the black upper.

We can guarantee these’ll sell out almost immediately.

Nike Tech Challenge Hybrid
Release Date: August 22
When people talk about signature sneakers, they always seem to forget Andre Agassi. If you want style, swagger, and charisma, he was right up there with anyone. Never afraid of rocking light colorways, or even denim, the tennis icon was a model for young cats looking for an identity. All of that returns in a big way this month with this Denim version of the Nike Tech Challenge Hybrid.

Featuring an all-light denim upper, with pink paint splatters, as well as pink branding and outsole, the sneaker is set off perfectly with black lacing, side panels and inner lining.

Don’t overlook this sneaker, which is taking cues from several of Agassi’s most famous silhouettes.

Nike Zoom Kobe 9 EM Low
Release Date: August 28
You can’t ever go wrong with some EM Kobe lows. During the same month that the famed “Beethoven” colorway hits the dress, we’ll be getting a second one from Kobe and Nike.

Featuring a crimson base with mango and mint accents, this will be one of the top low-top releases of the season.

Air Jordan VI “Sport Blue”
Release Date: August 30
It’s the month of “Sport Blue” for Jordan Brand. While neither this edition or the XIV that is dropping early in the month use a lot of the color, they’re accented just enough to give the shoe a pop. This VI also sports a black tongue, which should make it gel nicely with those jeans you are ready to breakout again for the fall.
