The 10 Greatest Nike LeBron “South Beach” Customs

  • Nike LeBron 9 “South Beach” Custom

    Who: Da Prince

What: Without an official LeBron 9 SB release, fans got the chance to go crazy. In this version, Da Prince kept it tame, filling the upper with the familiar turquoise palette with black accents and pink lacing to finish it off.

Nike LeBron 9 “Sex On South Beach”

    Who: Twizz Customs

What: Sex never felt so freaky. Twizz Customs took the LeBron 9 and pushed it on its head, dropping in pink splatters throughout the toe box and heel panels. The speckled midsole finishes this 1-of-1 custom off, giving it a unique unfinished look.

  • Nike LeBron 9 Low
Nike LeBron 9 Low “Bringing Sand To The Beach” Custom

    Who: Mache

What: Mache always takes it a step further. To poke fun at the hype, Mache went beyond South Beach to include all of Florida. Using the Floridian release as a base, he threw in the “Miami Nights” confetti that also surfaced on another low LeBron release (the 8 V2).

Nike LeBron 8 V2 “South Beach Custom

    Who: MizzeeCustoms

What: The LeBron 8 originally released in three distinct silhouettes, and while the V2 is still often considered the best of the batch, the SB colorway only dropped on the original 8. You can figure out what happens next. MizzeeCustoms did the only logical thing and combined the two, changing the Air Bag from green to pink and including small upgrades like a custom Gucci-print insole and “It’s Good To Be The King” on the tongue.

    Who: Twizz Customs

What: Already featured once on this list, Twizz Customs took inspiration from two separate sneakers on this one. Incorporation stylistic designs from the Pre-Heat 8s, as well as the “Miami Vice” 9s of the following year, these shoes have a black base with paint splatters across its face. Flamingo lacing and accents are contrasted with speckled gray paint along the Flywire. But the best part is definitely the LeBron Lion on the tongue, filled in with Flamingo pink and turquoise. So dope.

    Who: DeeNyce911

What: JBF Customs isn’t the only cat releasing sick snakeskin customs. Artist DeeNyce911 attempted to combine the snakeskin of the Yeezy 2 with a newly painted SB-inspired LeBron 9. The results are pretty amazing.

    Who: GourmetKickz

What: Always one of the best customizers in the game, GourmetKickz killed this one. The first change that sticks out has to be the glow-in-the-dark palm tree paint, yet look closely and you’ll notice the soles, lining and tongue have also been blacked out, which makes for a fantastic contrast to the loud pink, gray and turquoise. It might be a little out there for some, but isn’t that the point of customs? To take what’s been done and supercharge them?

    Who: Mache

What: Mache does it again here, flipping the iconic SB colors into something closer to tree green. Using the electric LeBron 9 “Freegums” as a starting point–check the inner lining–these get the approval simply because they took a somewhat played-out design and gave it an updated look.

    Who: GourmetKickz

What: South Beach customs don’t get much better than this. GourmetKickz crafted his own SB look by incorporating the “ParaNorman” style all over the LeBron X base, from the midsole to the upper. With a black tongue, lacing, and inner lining, this shoe plays with a darker vibe than most South Beach customs you’ll find. It’s definitely a little wild, but is still a breath of fresh air.

For the first time in two years tomorrow, the Nike LeBron signature line will be returning with a classic “South Beach” colorway. One of the most hyped colorways of this generation, it’s been a favorite among sneaker artists since the first images of the “Pre-Heat” LeBron 8s surfaced in the fall of 2010.

With Miami having tied the NBA Finals up at one game a piece with San Antonio, it’s perfect timing. While the South Beach 11s will sell out quickly, thankfully, the customs will be dropping all year long. To predict what we can expect to see from the sneaker industry, we took a look back at some of the best South Beach customs in Nike’s LeBron line.
