Because of a historically great Golden State season, one complete with a couple of insane individual performances by the team’s best players, Stephen Curry is already the NBA’s most exciting, most popular player. He lead the NBA in All-Star votes and, if I was a betting man, I’d say he has to be the frontrunner for the MVP. I think he has a better than 50 percent chance of wining the award. Now he’s trying to corner the sneaker market, too.
Around the NBA All-Star break, Under Armour and Curry unveiled his long-awaited signature sneaker, the Curry One. Having been in the works ever since Curry left Nike for UA, the Curry One is a direct descendant of the Anatomix Spawn and ClutchFit Drive and features UA’s patented Charged Cushioning.
The initial launch included two colorways, the home version, which was doused in the traditional royal blue and yellow of Golden State, and a “Dark Matter” version for the NBA All-Star Game.
Now today at Champs Sports, we’ll be seeing two new colorways: an “Away” version, which will most likely feature Golden State’s familiar color schemes, and a colorway celebrating his time in college at Davidson. Considering the timing, with the Final Four set to start, it makes sense. Curry was a stud at Davidson, spearheading one of the best Cinderella runs in recent memory with the team in 2008. They beat No. 2 seed Georgetown in the round of 32, then took out No. 3 seed Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. They’d eventually lose to future national champ Kansas by two, but not before Curry had everyone — including LeBron James — loving his game.
If you’re a fan of Curry, and there are a lot of you out there, you can’t miss this release.
