Kevin Durant says his latest signature sneaker from Nike is set to change the game. We’ll have to wait and see. But the first colorway is definitely dope.
Dropping today at Champs Sports as part of the amazing “4th of July” collection from Nike is the first official colorway of the KD 8, the “USA.” Durant barely wore the KD7 last season because of issues with the mold of the shoe and his various foot injuries. But he’s already promising something different with this one, considering it features a breathable Flyweave and knit upper on a low-top silhouette, complete with Dynamic Flywire and Zoom Air. Designer Leo Chang, who also heads up the design on the soon-to-be classic Kyrie 1, went way into left field with the KD 8. For inspiration, he used the saber-tooth tiger, a prehistoric animal that was both ferocious and sleek. On the court, that sounds a lot like Durant, who is one of the smoothest scorers the NBA has ever seen. Despite the injuries in 2014-15, KD still put up over 25 points per game in limited minutes and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he comes back to win his fifth scoring title in a landslide next season.
This particular colorway sports a firework graphic on the heel and medial side, and douses the KD 8 in a patriotic red, white, and blue makeup.
I’m calling it right now: Kevin Durant is coming back next year refreshed and ready to blow up (again). Make sure you’re up on game early with the KD 8, the next installment in the signature series of a growing legend.
