Sneaker Spotlight: The Nike CJ3 Flyweave Trainer “Bowling” Colorway

Calvin Johnson, better known as Megatron, the NFL’s most imposing superhero, looks to return to full, dominant form this coming season after a disappointing, injury-plagued year that saw him either sidelined or not his usual self for much of it. If Nike’s latest CJ3 Flyweave Trainer release–called “Bowling”–is indicative of anything, it’s that the 6-5 powerhouse wide receiver must be in great spirits. Available now at Champs Sports, the shoe keeps up with previous iterations of the CJ3 with a wackily fresh pattern and, after seeing a sick salute to the Atlanta Braves, with maybe another of Calvin Johnson’s favorite past times owing to the shoe’s name.

The string design is perfect for summer’s hot streak or if you’re gearing up for a cool Back to School collection. Known for using Nike’s latest and best sneaker technology available, the CJ3 releases have coincided with much fanfare. (Notably, my personal favorite, the “Paintball” release.) Owing much to the sneaker’s success is the versatility of a low-top silhouette and the sneaker’s solid design, which adopts Nike’s Flyweave technology, offering lightweight breathability and a tailored fit, as well as their Flywire technology for support and lockdown during lateral movements. The sneaker’s “nubby” outsole is perfect for grip and traction on a variety of surfaces.

This one is definitely one of the spunkiest of signature sneakers that sits atop of Nike’s roster, somewhat of a paradox to Megatron’s on-the-field demeanor as a silent assassin who lets his game do the talking.

So, will Calvin Johnson return to his former glory or are his best years behind him? Before we get answers, treat yourself to some fun with these joints.
