Will anyone ever catch Michael Jordan?
I hear that question all the time. Everyone wants to know. The six championships. The points records. The icon status. The sneaker legacy that’s busy doing laps around the competition. So, can anyone catch Michael Jordan? In one word, no…not at this. He has too much of a head start.
But LeBron James is forming his own sneaker legacy and a decade from now, the game won’t look anything like it did during Jordan’s heyday. I think if you asked the King, ‘Bron ‘Bron would tell you he ain’t trying to match the greatest sneaker line ever. He’s trying to do something different.
However, at least this weekend, we have a situation that’ll inevitably draw comparisons. Dropping today at Champs Sports are grade school size runs of the two latest colorways to come from Nike‘s LeBron line and the Jordan Brand. The Nike LeBron 13 is here in a Wolf Grey/Blue Lagoon/Dark Grey/White colorway that was originally inspired by space. Meanwhile, the Air Jordan VII is returning in the same size run in a Black/Fuchsia Glow-Mulberry-Wolf Grey colorway. These two shoes sport drastically different color schemes and, at least for most, will be used for drastically different reasons. In the case of LeBron, he has actually already worn this colorway on the court, so that casts a little more meaning to these. (Jordan, obviously, never wore this VII colorway.)
This weekend, even the kids are getting hooked up. We’re getting grade school sizes for dope new sneakers being released by Michael Jordan and LeBron James in the form of the Air Jordan VII and the Nike LeBron 13.
