Even though the Lakers legend is now 37 years old and a champion of the old regime, Kobe Bryant‘s sneaker line with Nike is still going strong in 2015. While we wait for the next edition in the series, the Kobe 11, the Swoosh blessed us yet again.
Available at Champs Sports is a Black/Radiant Emerald/Dark Grey/Metallic Silver colorway of the Kobe X that’s hitting at the perfect time with high school basketball seasons heating up. This “Liberty” edition is yet another rendition of the popular Kobe X Elite Low silhouette, a sneaker that’s regularly noted as one of this year’s best performers. It’s also a unique colorway as it is inspired by Kobe’s favorite football team and also a colorway that brings to mind Bryant’s love of great white sharks. (KB’s sneakers are known for their bizarre and animalistic inspirations.) In fact, that color along the outsole, contrasted with the darker upper, looks a lot like the silhouette a great white shark sports in the water, where its grey back keeps it hidden below its prey and a white belly does the same to animals beneath when looking up against the sun. This Kobe X sports grey and black detailing across the tongue, laces, inner lining, and heel. There is also a Metallic Silver Swoosh on each side.
Bryant’s sneaker legacy is secured. He was a pioneer of bringing low-top performance sneakers back into the fold, and was respected by everyone in the game for the way he made all of his competitors and teammates step up their games. Being good wasn’t enough. He demanded perfection. This latest Kobe X colorway only adds to this.
