Kyrie Irving and Nike did just about everything right this year in regards to Uncle Drew’s first signature sneaker. From Michael Jordan‘s first signature that changed the game to Allen Iverson‘s explosive debut to even something somewhat recent like LeBron James‘ first shoe, there are certain successful traits that you can find in every thriving sneaker line. The ones that fail don’t have them. The ones that make it? Well, they certainly pass the grade.
Irving had all of that this year, and his Nike Kyrie 1 quickly backed up the hype, so much so that people are already collecting it as if it was a long-lasting classic. Somehow, though, despite dope colorway after dope colorway, the Nike design team hasn’t stopped.
The latest colorway is dropping now at Champs Sports in a green design. Dubbed “Australia” for Kyrie’s birthplace, and hitting just before we all hit the courts again for the start of the basketball season, these are exactly what the prospective baller should be looking for. To match Irving’s incredible first step off the dribble, designer Leo Chang put together a silhouette that features Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot, a Hyperfuse upper that doesn’t drop support despite breathability, and a traction pattern that wraps 360 degrees around the sidewalls for incredible grip on the outsole. We’re not sure Chang is going to take credit for Kyrie’s arsenal of dribble highlights, but the Kyrie 1 certainly didn’t hurt them this year.
The fall months are important for any basketball player looking to make noise this season. Hit the gym in something both stylish and progressive. The Kyrie 1 is, honestly, one of your best options.
