If you thought 2015 did some work on your bank account, you’re about to hate 2016. Even as it seemed like more of us opted for some fire Chelsea boots and stashed the kicks this year, it’s quite obvious shoes aren’t flying out of anyone’s rotation anytime soon.
This January is starting things off with a bang, coming correct with a never-before-seen colorway of the Air Jordan IV before you can even blink. As part of a new collection from Jordan Brand that paints a picture of what Michael Jordan‘s earliest sneakers could’ve looked like had such a thing as player exclusives existed back then, this particular “Alternate ’89” pair marks the first Jordan IV we’re getting this year. It will ultimately be overshadowed by its Nike Air brethren–we’re expecting potential releases of the White/Cement, Black/Cement, and Military Blues this year, all with that OG-approved “Nike Air” on the heel–making this the type of release cats will sleep on and then kick themselves over in a few years. (I’m still banging my head against the wall for not coping some of the Jordans I passed up on in college.) Don’t be that guy.
Available this Saturday at Champs Sports, the “Alternate ’89” colorway for the Jordan IV is a perfect way to kick off 2016. With a slick color scheme incorporating simple red to a white base, this is the type of retro that should please both longtime fans of the brand and newcomers looking to stunt for the ‘gram.
Imagine the GOAT rocking these with the Bulls? I can.
