For a player with so much talent and style, so much pure athletic ability, it actually still feels like John Wall has another level he can get to. If he’s going to make that leap, though, there’s a good chance it happens this year for the Wizards.
With Paul Pierce gone, the onus is on Wall to be more than just the best player. He has to be the unquestioned leader as well.
“I’ve grown as a player and as a better leader for my team,” Wall said in a release by adidas. “I’m the captain now, and I don’t want to let my teammates and the people of this city down.”
Washington should play much faster this year in an effort to take advantage of their perimeter talent. Wall, for his part, has some big goals. He wants to be in the MVP conversation this season. If he succeeds, you can bet his sneaker will rise with him.
Wall has a long and interesting signature sneaker history, but his brand has finally found its home with the 3-Stripes. When we spoke with him about the partnership during last year’s All-Star Weekend, Wall was excited to see what was coming next. Well…next is finally here with the J Wall 2, available now at Champs Sports in the navy, white, and red away colorway, a significant step up visually from his first sig silo with the brand.
The shoe embraces Wall’s athleticism through a Quickframe upper, a full length adiprene+ for energy rebound, stability with the 3D molded topline, and added traction within a central deep flex groove. It also sports many personal details throughout, including JSW on the inner tongue liner to commemorate John’s late father. The outsole logo features all sorts of personal engravings, such as “Mama’s Boy,” “Five Deep” for his childhood friends, “Raleigh” and “919” for hometown pride, and “Great Wall,” which is inspired by his tattoo and personal goals.
The people at adidas are ready to do big things. Expect the J Wall 2 to be an important part of that.
