New York City is one of the most diverse places on Earth. Distinct for its people, food, and style, you can find a little bit of everything. Detroit native Elisa Klein grew up in NYC, enamored with the sneaker culture.
“It’s a melting pot of people so there are always sneakers on display,” says EK. “The subway, walking through the park, etc. NYC has a great sneaker culture because there are plenty of sources for hard to get shoes and the market is more competitive. More people know their stuff and it’s easier to find other people who ‘get it.’”
The woman behind the Instagram handle @ElisaLouk got into sneakers after a friend sent a picture to her of the Nike SB Dunk Highs. From here, she became obsessed.
“They were a special edition and hard to find, and I had to hunt them down,” she says. “Once I got them, I was hooked and I started to have that feeling about all kinds of pairs.”
Now residing in Miami, she currently owns 200 pairs. Some of her favorites include the Jordan Taxi XII, YOTH AF1, Jordan XI, and FILA Grant Hill 2.
And to make some of us feel lazy, EK is a fitness buff where her two passions go hand-to-hand, even if both can sometimes be a constant battle for her.
“Fitness makes me balance the functionality and fashion of sneakers,” she says. “I’ll admit that some of my workout sneakers are hideous, but in those times, it’s all about the functionality.”
Like many other women of her generation, EK is mountain an assault on previous fashion trends for the ladies. She says she’s happy about the progression of sneaker culture.
“I think that sneaker companies have recognized that there is a female sneakerhead culture out there and have shown respect to their buying power by making some dope designs for women,” she says. “The City Pack Air Maxes were a great drop this past summer and I’ve even seen some guys getting jealous of the designs that are only available in women’s sizes. I like that.”
In this edition of She Got Game, we caught up with EK and let her tell the stories behind some of her greatest IG posts.
