She Got Game: The Stories Behind @ElisaLouk’s 11 Best Sneaker Pictures

  • Air Jordan 5 Grape elisalouk

    “These are the Jordan V Grapes. I just got them a year ago and had been scouting them for a while but couldn’t find them. Then I went to my first Sneaker Convention in Miami and, by pure luck, I was able to find them for a more-than-decent price. The colorway is so simple and clean that it makes me happy. I wore these to work on a more casual day.”

    “These are my second favorite pair of Foamposites (first is the classic all-whites). No super interesting story about these except that they were a little hard to find and I was proud to get them under retail. I took this pic waiting in line at the movies. I got a few crazy looks.”

    “These are the Jordan Lava Vs. A co-worker saw the sneaks and wanted to take my sneaker pic. We snuck into a conference room and stood on chairs trying to get the light right between giggles.”

    “These are the Jordan VI Carmines. These are my favorite VIs. The colors are nice and crisp and fun to wear. Nothing interesting about the shoot, I just took a break from work and a walk and took the pic.”

    “Another pair of Jordan Vs. (I’m pretty sure I got these online on a Saturday morning from Champs Sports when they dropped.) Sometimes it’s easier to get the hard-to-get pairs online because I wear a GS size. This was one of those times. I took these at work as well.”

  • Air Jordan 4 Columbia elisalouk

    @elisalouk

    “Jordan Columbia IVs. I was so happy that I got these and I wanted to take a pic of them, but it was also such a beautiful day and they went so beautifully with the clouds. So I went by the water and tried to angle myself so the shoes looked right with the clouds….it was a great ab workout.”

    “Classic Jordan IIIs that are probably one of many people’s favorites. A friend gave them to me because they didn’t fit, and I lucked up. I took this picture during one of my many trips to the driving range (before I got official golf shoes). I realized later that I looked pretty crazy hitting golf balls in Jordans but they felt good at the time. One great thing about living in Florida is that I don’t have to worry as much about bad weather when I wear my sneaks.”

    “This was a pair that I had been looking for for a while and I actually bought them from @Kicks0l0gy, who is one of the top female sneakerheads I know. I met her at a sneaker convention in Miami with the folks from @kix4chicks. It’s actually the only non-brand new shoes I ever got, but they were in great shape and I loved wearing them.”

  • Nike Sky Hi boots elisalouk

    @elisalouk

    “These are Nike Sky Hi sneaker boots. One of the few pairs that I don’t have a box for. They are actually very special to me because they were a gift from someone very special who died last year. I can’t look at them without thinking of him for a second.”

  • Nike Air Huarache elisalouk

    @elisalouk

    “My first pair of Huaraches. I actually had to buy them from London because I couldn’t find them at retail in my size. I actually want to add more Huaraches to my collection, but I haven’t found pairs that I was in love with just yet.”

    “These are the Jordan Gamma XIs. I travel a lot to Dubai for work, and I always try to bring a few pairs of sneakers in case I get to dress casually for a day. Dubai has a very trendy and brand-oriented culture. They have every franchise that you can think of and every high-end brand in their multi-mile long shopping malls, but getting dope sneakers there is tough. I actually enjoy picking out sneakers for my trips to Dubai because I always get stopped by people in the street there when I wear a good pair. It surprises my co-workers when I get stopped while walking with them when someone admires my sneakers. They call me ‘sneaker queen’ at work.”

New York City is one of the most diverse places on Earth. Distinct for its people, food, and style, you can find a little bit of everything. Detroit native Elisa Klein grew up in NYC, enamored with the sneaker culture.

“It’s a melting pot of people so there are always sneakers on display,” says EK. “The subway, walking through the park, etc. NYC has a great sneaker culture because there are plenty of sources for hard to get shoes and the market is more competitive. More people know their stuff and it’s easier to find other people who ‘get it.’”

The woman behind the Instagram handle @ElisaLouk got into sneakers after a friend sent a picture to her of the Nike SB Dunk Highs. From here, she became obsessed.

“They were a special edition and hard to find, and I had to hunt them down,” she says. “Once I got them, I was hooked and I started to have that feeling about all kinds of pairs.”

Now residing in Miami, she currently owns 200 pairs. Some of her favorites include the Jordan Taxi XII, YOTH AF1, Jordan XI, and FILA Grant Hill 2.

And to make some of us feel lazy, EK is a fitness buff where her two passions go hand-to-hand, even if both can sometimes be a constant battle for her.

“Fitness makes me balance the functionality and fashion of sneakers,” she says. “I’ll admit that some of my workout sneakers are hideous, but in those times, it’s all about the functionality.”

Like many other women of her generation, EK is mountain an assault on previous fashion trends for the ladies. She says she’s happy about the progression of sneaker culture.

“I think that sneaker companies have recognized that there is a female sneakerhead culture out there and have shown respect to their buying power by making some dope designs for women,” she says. “The City Pack Air Maxes were a great drop this past summer and I’ve even seen some guys getting jealous of the designs that are only available in women’s sizes. I like that.”

In this edition of She Got Game, we caught up with EK and let her tell the stories behind some of her greatest IG posts.
