From his music to his lyrics to his style, Kendrick Lamar has always represented for the common people. The dude grew up wearing “TeeBos and Rees,” a white tee, Jabo jeans, and Reebok Classics, so it was no wonder that when Reebok came looking last year for a way to fuse music and sport, style and sneakers, they looked no farther than Compton’s finest.
The partnership exploded through a video short shot at locations that hold true meaning in Lamar’s life, and also included a powerful verse from the man himself on what inspires him. It was gritty. It was real. It was getting at Kendrick’s roots.
You could say the same things apply to Reebok, as over the past few years they’ve embraced their roots from the 1990s. They released the Kamikaze II. They released Shaquille O’Neal‘s two greatest sneakers. They released the Pump. Again and again they took it back. Again and again they delivered. To keep their connection to the streets, Reebok is now re-releasing the OG Ventilator shoe, which just so happens to be one of Kendrick’s favorites.
“My style is simple, but with an edge – and it’s as classic as that,” he says.
Available today at Champs Sports — in Canada only — the Ventilator will be followed by a limited edition capsule collection from Reebok and Kendrick for this year’s fall and winter, as well as signature Ventilator styles directly inspired by the rapper’s life, style, and personality that will drop this June. For now, get started on your collection by copping these kicks.
