    10. "The Lake"

Another sneaker taking inspiration from Lake Michigan, this glossy metallic teal synthetic tumbled leather upper is a nice break for Rose from the consistent Bulls colors. The mint Fit Cage is also a nice touch.

    9. "Away"

A launch colorway that uses the stereotypical all-black formatting, I still enjoy this sneaker because of the red lacing. It adds an extra punch. Not as hot as the home version that released to the public at the same time, which is super rare when comparing all-black to all-white shoes, but these’ll do for anyone looking to hoop in some new kicks.

    8. "Chicago Ice"

Because an all-black and all-white sneaker with an icy sole is always appreciated. Yes, it is a little plain and probably won’t see a lot of on-court action this year. But if you’re looking to rock a pair of D Roses out, it’ll be hard to top the versatility of these.

Inspired by Lake Michigan and the cold winters anyone in Chicago can relate to, this colorway is pretty flawless.

    7. "Woven Blues"

The folks at adidas really went out of the box with this one, scrapping the mesh upper for a woven approach that throws some texture on a normally sleek shoe. That obsidian was first inspired by all of the 20th century blues artists who came to Chicago seeking a fresh start. Along with the orange-red inner lining and those grey laces, this colorway is a unique way to call out Rose’s home without being too hard-handed.

    6. "Brenda"

The best longstanding colorway in the Rose line is the “Brenda” edition, inspired by his mother’s love of the color red. This year’s version received an extra pop through the inclusion of the layered red tones. It’s an interesting decision, but ultimately it works. Earlier in the season, the sneaker community had thought another Rose 5 edition would be this year’s “Brenda.” This one is much better.

    5. "Black History Month"

Premium materials to celebrate a good cause? I’m down with it. The upper and sockliner paid tribute to the legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with the words “The Hook Shot is Worth a Thousand Words,” honoring the signature shot that turned the NBA center into a legend.

The sockliner also features red and green for the Milwaukee Bucks, Kareem’s squad, while the pattern pays homage to the famous radio tower that broadcasted Bucks games at the time. Add in the gold-laced logo on the heel and these joints are fly.

    4. "Broadway Express"

This colorway was about as far left as you could go for something related to Derrick Rose. But honestly, it works. The hints of yellow bite hard, and the multi-colored layers work well off each other, culminating in an ill metallic upper. This came as part of the “Broadway Express” collection, taking inspiration from the New York City subway line.

Plus, in the end, I’m a sucker for grey.

    3. "Home"

I’ll be the first to admit that white sneakers are almost never as hot as their black counterparts. But this colorway is killer. The paint splatters. The fire red branding, as well as those laces and that outsole. Super mean. However, it’s the patent leather that puts this one over the top. It’s very easy to turn patent leather into overkill, but adidas used it just right here.

    2. "Alternate Away"

One of the hottest colorways of any sneaker all year. Taking cues from Chicago architecture, this shoe goes next level with the use of two-toned laces and the panels mimicking marble. Rose has worn this on-court this year, but even if he had never bothered to ever lace them up, this is still a high point for the D Rose 5. Rose’s sneakers always look best when sporting grey and it appears this year’s version is no different.

    1. "Bad Dreams"

Continuing adidas’ “Bad Dreams” storyline this year, Rose busted these babies out on the basketball world during Chicago’s 20-point win over the Lakers on Christmas. Rose dropped 20 points. This colorway was super fresh, blending unique texturing on the upper with glow in the dark accents.

There are a handful of factors involved in why Derrick Rose‘s star hasn’t risen over the past two years. You probably know about all of them. But there’s really only one factor involved in bringing the Chicago point guard back to his rightful place among the game’s hierarchy: He just has to win.

Winning cures just about everything in sports and for a team and city starving for a championship, that might not be any more relevant than when you’re talking about Rose’s legacy. So far this year, Chicago is slowing coming into form, currently fighting for homecourt advantage in the first round of an improved Eastern Conference. It’s much of the same for Rose. While his critics are quick to point out he’s not the same MVP-caliber player, don’t overlook his steady improvement. His points-per-game average has risen each month. In January, he averaged just over 20 points per game. His assists are on a similar trajectory and Rose even managed to shoot nearly 40 percent from three-point range for most of the month. He’s coming.

With that being said, it’s a good thing his signature sneaker line with adidas has never wavered. Because of the presence of the ridiculous Boost technology, the D Rose 5 might be the best silhouette yet and some of the colorways have been downright awesome.

Tomorrow, a new colorway of the sneaker is dropping at Champs Sports, one that is inspired by Rose’s mother, Brenda. In anticipation of that, today we’re Ranking the Best adidas D Rose 5 Boost Colorways.
