Green might be an unofficial color for this time of the year, but that still doesn’t make it any easier to rock. Blue. Red. Brown. Tan. Even yellow and purple. Those are all colors that don’t take a lot of effort to make look good. But green…for some reason sneaker silhouettes almost never come strong when laced like this.

Luckily, that doesn’t apply to this weekend’s new Nike Kobe X colorway, the “Vino,” which is dropping on Saturday at Champs Sports. Featuring a poison green upper and a nickname and colorway taking inspiration from the grapes used to make wine, it’s yet another example of Kobe Bryant and Nike digging deep to come through with a strong story and execution for one of his sneakers. This shoe also features a translucent sole with black accents. On the heel, the patented four stitches pop in fire red, the four of them there to represent the four feet of thread that doctors used to repair Kobe’s torn Achilles’ tendon.

It’s a great shoe to wear this spring, especially on the court. Bryant’s line has a history of creating amazing silhouettes no matter what the colors are. However, for other performance and casual shoes, green isn’t always so friendly, even if every once in a while the designers get it right.

With the warm weather fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about new kicks to cop while also hitting your closet for some others you retired for winter. For starters, here is our take on the Nike Kobe X “Vino” and 9 Other Green Sneakers You Need This Spring.
