It’s never a question of if Nike will come correct with hot sneaker colorways for their biggest stars in the NBA All-Star Game. It’s more a matter of what, exactly, those colors will look like.
Last year with the game held in New Orleans, Nike dropped the NOLA Gumbo League Collection, a trio of sneakers for Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant that were all inspired by specific aspects of the whole N’awlins environment. You had LeBron’s sneaker, put together to pay tribute to the enormous gators of the region. There was the Kobe 9, centered around the city’s eclectic music scene. And then the KD VI was there celebrating the unique aspect of New Orleans where everything isn’t always as it appears.
It was a fantastic collection and it matched up with what Nike had done in recent years, most notably with the “extraterrestrial” theme used for Houston in 2013.
Today, this year’s “All-Star” editions of the KD7 and Kobe X are both dropping at Champs Sports, where they will come just in time for the weekend. Bryant might be hurt once again, and Durant should count himself lucky that he even made the game considering he’s played less than half of his team’s games. But as always, Nike comes correct, making both of these shoes must-cop pairs for anyone who is a fan of either player. In a way, both of these could be classics before it’s all said and done. Bryant may never make another All-Star Game and Durant is due for an MVP. It could happen this year.
Thinking about it like that, you know both of these are must-haves because, in the end, this Year’s All-Star Editions of the Nike Kobe X and KD7 Look Fantastic.
