Storytelling has always played a role in Kevin Durant‘s signature sneaker line with Nike. It’s what makes his shoe more personal, more accessible than some other players. We know about his Aunt Pearl. We know about his DMV roots. And most importantly, at least when it comes to his kicks, we know about his love of meteorology.
Today marks the release of the Nike KD7 “Weatherman” at Champs Sports, a shoe that’s the latest in a long-running line for Kevin Durant. What started with the KD IV, one of the most hyped basketball sneakers of the past decade, is now coming to fruition in the KD7 through a green upper paying homage to weather newsroom green screens. There are also Doppler radar-inspired graphics wrapped around the shoe’s Hyperposite heel, Swoosh branding, and outsole.
While the weatherman theme has inspired multiple colorways throughout Durant’s partnership with Nike designer Leo Chang, the KD7, in particular, has been building off themes of lightning and thunder ever since the launch last summer. And so far, every colorway has been a hit.
The KD7 is one of Durant’s best sneakers yet, in part because they brought back a mid-cut as well as the mid-foot strap, and the “Weatherman” is probably the best colorway to date.
