There’s no position in football, let alone in sports, that’s more important than the quarterback. He’s the leader. He’s the conductor. At the end of the day, he’s the field general. His teammates follow his lead through right and wrong, through wins and losses. Last year in the NFL, we saw some of the best quarterbacks do all they could for their teams, and many of those names were the “field generals” chosen by Nike to rock their latest shoes on the field.
Yes, Johnny Manziel‘s first year in the league didn’t go according to plan, even if his shoe colorway was dope, but everyone else involved with the Nike Field General–from Russell Wilson to Drew Brees to Aaron Rodgers to Colin Kaepernick to Andrew Luck–excelled. In fact, three of them played in conference championship games–Wilson, Rodgers, and Luck–and Russell Wilson and his Seattle Seahawks came within a yard of a second consecutive Super Bowl win.
Now, with training camps starting up in the not-too-distant future, Nike is dropping a new version of the Nike Field General 2 trainer. First up is a colorway for Marcus Mariota called “The Opening.” For Mariota going into his first year in the NFL, he already knows he must have the courage to step up and step out. Leadership is never given. It’s earned.
The Field General 2 trainer features ultra-lightweight mesh and foam for flexibility, as well as an sole that produces 360-degree traction for complete turf control. Magwire ties create a lockdown fit when running, and a full-length Nike Zoom Bag increases stability and responsiveness. Last but now least are the trademark five stars, celebrating the commitment, passion, excellence of the game’s best leaders.
Make sure you’re watching the league’s newest, biggest name this year with the hottest on-field kicks.
