Kobe Bryant‘s defining trait as a basketball player is his focus, his ability to play through anything. No wonder Nike wants his sneaker to reflect that.
Bryant didn’t have the year he wanted this season, and the Lakers were so bad that they ended up getting the No. 2 pick in this month’s NBA Draft. But you know what? His newest signature sneaker–the Kobe X–might be the top performance shoe on the market. As always, Bean and his designers just know how to properly mix sneaker tech with looks to give the silhouette a look and feel that can work just about anywhere.
Designed by Eric Avar, the shoe features a unique hybrid cushioning system that combines Lunarlon with Nike Free-inspired siping grooves. There is also a new Zoom Air unit in the heel, an advanced traction system, and a seamless textile upper. Once you factor in the inspiration behind this shoe, it takes everything that went into it and magnifies it. You see, Bryant is a master technician. He’s a student of the game. He’s obsessive and creative. Those characteristics helped to drive the process of creating this sneaker.
“I like trying to do something as perfectly as possible,” Bryant said during the Kobe X’s initial launch. “And it’s crazy, I know, and it’s not necessarily the healthiest thing in the world. But it’s what I enjoy.”
That focus comes to life in the latest colorway of the shoe that dropped today at Champs Sports. It’s a perfect shoe not only for those of us looking to ball out this summer, but also for Kobe Bryant fans. Why? A perfect name.
