Fresh off an MVP season with his Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Durant has a lot to look forward to. He has his continuing partnership with Russell Westbrook, which has never been stronger. He has a fanbase that loves him. He has all of the scoring titles, the deep playoff trips, and, oh yeah, he has a burgeoning signature sneaker line.
Today, Nike is officially dropping the KD 7, the latest in Durant’s line in a white-based USA-themed colorway. Dubbed the “Independence Day” KDs—the 4th of July is right around the corner for those of you who don’t have calendars—the 7s have a strong callback to the popular KD IVs with the front strap across the laces.
During a live broadcast this past Wednesday, Ahmad Rashad interviewed Durant himself, as well as the sneaker’s designer Leo Chang.
As much as KD has, he’s still missing one thing: a championship. This season he’ll take the floor in his 7s and look to change that. If he does, and if the Thunder is holding the Larry O’Brien at the end of the year, it’ll go a long way toward turning these sneakers into a classic.
