Johnny Manziel was only the 22nd pick in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft, but there is no rookie under a bigger spotlight than the former Texas A&M star. Yes, some of that he’s brought on himself, but mostly, the 6-0 dynamo is an electrifying quarterback playing in a city starved for a winner. He was a college star who played a specific style that longtime talent evaluators don’t believe will work in the NFL. And he’s attempting something that only a few players (Fran Tarkenton, Drew Brees, Sonny Jurgensen) excelled at: starring as a small signal caller.
Safe to say it’s going to be a fun year.
There are only a handful of NFL players with the charisma to warrant signature sneakers. Manziel is one of them. Today, get ready for the release of Manziel’s Zoom Field General “Texas” colorway at Champs Sports. Inspired by the colors of his state’s flag, and featuring a sick white/grey/black gradient design and red accents on the lace holds, Swoosh, and Nike branding on the tongue, the shoe is part of a collection designed specifically for quarterbacks. With a Nike Zoom unit in the heel and forefoot, aggressive traction in the outsole, Flywire cables, and an outsole shank for stabilization, this is the trainer that’ll take any QB from the gym to the turf.
A Manziel collection will follow, which includes tees, shorts, camouflage get-ups, color-coordinated gloves, a hat with the word “BEAST” stitch on the front, and a hoodie.
You won’t want to miss that first Cleveland game on September 7. Make sure you’re dressed for it, too.
