Using an innovative design to put life back into an old classic, the Jordan Brand is ready to drop the Air Jordan XX as they never have before.
Releasing at Champs Sports, the “Laser” edition of the Air Jordan XX has its roots in the mid-2000s when JB used laser detailing on shoes such as the Jordan IV and the V. At the time, nearly every laser release created hype and anticipation, regardless of what the sneaker eventually looked like. Now after a few years out of the limelight, laser detailing is back again.
In this instance, though, it makes perfect sense. Part of what made the XX such an impressive sneaker was the use of laser detailing throughout the mid-foot strap. Tinker Hatfield returned for the big occasion – the 20th signature sneaker for Michael Jordan – and then went about creating one of Jordan’s most intricate designs to date. There was the mid-foot Velcro strap and the ankle strap, which was normally the first thing everyone noticed. But on a closer look, the detailing was incredible, creating a canvas of important symbols and events that marked specific moments in Jordan’s career. The ad campaign played off this celebration, bringing back Spike Lee and spotlighting some of Jordan’s most important moments. The whole thing made Jordan look like Jesus. And it made the shoe a hit.
With the Air Jordan XX being the first in years to take another dive into the vaunted laser detailing, this shoe is a must-cop for many longtime sneakerheads.
