To celebrate the launch of a limited edition Sole Collector magazine for NBA All-Star Weekend, Champs Sports co-hosted a party featuring a performance by Metro Boomin on Thursday night. Through his work with artists like Drake, Future, and Young Thug, Metro Boomin is currently one of the industry’s hottest names, and he backed that claim up by performing for much of the night.
The night also included appearances by NBA players like Jordan Clarkson from the L.A. Lakers and Nerlens Noel of the Philadelphia 76ers as well as influencers like Nike Basketball‘s footwear designer Leo Chang, senior writer at Bleacher Report Chris Palmer, Instagram’s @SheGotGame, The Drop guest video host Jacques Slade, as well as many of the game’s most important sneaker writers.
The exclusive party gave fans an early look at the re-issued Sole Collector magazine. Complete with a Kobe Bryant cover story and exclusive interview, as well as features on many of the weekend’s most important shoe releases such as the adidas NMD, adidas Superstar, the adidas All-Star lineup, and Nike‘s “Black History Month” collection, the magazine marks the first time in two years that Sole Collector has been available in print.
Hosted just above the Champs Sports location on Yonge Street in downtown Toronto, the event also had ice sculptures of some of this year’s most iconic sneaker releases: the “Cement” Air Jordan IV with “Nike Air” on the heel; the “3-Point Contest” colorway of Stephen Curry‘s Under Armour Curry Two; and the adidas Crazylight Boost 2.5.
However, the evening’s most interactive experience included a Kobe Bryant mural made up entirely of small custom Instagram images. If you tagged a sneaker photo with the hashtag #ChampsGotSole, you saw your image broadcasted over a projection before being added to the mural.
