A March Madness Preview: America’s Best Teams and Players Wearing the Most Heat This Year

  • Devin Booker Air Jordan 2 Kentucky

    Kentucky Wildcats

There might be not another team in the country that can match Kentucky’s play on or off the court. This group might end up being one of the greatest defensive teams ever. Part of the reason is that they have 10 guys over 6-6, including starting point guard Andrew Harrison. When it comes to gear, the Wildcats have put on quite a display with players wearing a mixtures of Nike signature PEs and a handful of Air Jordans this season. It was also impressive to see Devin Booker and Tyler Ulis play in the much raved about Just Don X Air Jordan II.

    Duke Blue Devils

Every year Duke is in contention of winning the whole tourney. Having Jahlil Okafor puts Duke in a different echelon. Coach K has never really had a post player as talented as Okafor and his presence has made the Duke offense much more fluid. Tyus Jones is one of the purest point guards in the nation and has shown off a cold-blooded mentality when games are close. The rest of the Blue Devils such as Justise Winslow, Quinn Cook, Matt Jones, and Amile Jefferson are great players built to accommodate Okafor’s game. As a Nike school, the Blue Devils rock of a lot of the Swoosh’s performance gear, such as the customized LeBron 12 PE, KD7, and Hyperdunks. It is also worth mentioning that Jahlil Okafor has been wearing customized versions of the LeBron X.

Nike has also granted the Blue Devils with the Kyrie 1 “Brotherhood” and Kobe X (Duke PE) silhouettes just in time for March Madness. Having some dope alumni can you get some cool attire — while Kobe didn’t attend college it is rumored that he would have attended Duke if he did. Kyrie only played a few games for the Blue Devils but he did make a great impact on the team. The Brotherhood sneakers represent Kyrie and Duke’s theme of brotherhood that Coach K preaches. They will be dropping on March 12 for everyone but just know Tyus Jones will be rocking a pair during the tourney.

    Louisville Cardinals

This year, adidas has decked out the Cards in every way possible, from giving them some dope throwback jerseys to letting them rock Derrick Rose signature kicks. The Cards are going to be one of the most feared teams come tourney time because of their depth at every position. Montrezl Harrell is a beast, and Chris Jones and Terry Rozier make up one of the most dynamic backcourts in the country. The Cards lost a tough one to Kentucky early in the season but it will be epic if these two have a rematch somewhere down the line in March.

This year, adidas has decked out Louisville and Kansas for March Madness by giving them new uniforms and a choice of rocking different signature kicks. The new uniforms feature enlarged team logos on the shorts and an extended waistband that allows players to display their school colors even when wearing home whites. The uniforms are cool with a throwback feel with Louisville rocking three different versions of sleeve jerseys. Both teams as mentioned will be wearing the latest signature sneakers — D Lillard 1, J Wall 1, and D Rose 5 Boost — in new, all-white colorways. Speaking of Kansas…

    Kansas Jayhawks

You can never count out Bill Self and the Jayhawks. Once Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid left for the draft there was a lot of talk about how this would be a down year. But with the emergence of a solid group of players like Kelly Oubre, Wayne Selden, Perry Ellis, Cliff Alexander, and Frank Mason, this team might surprise a few people down the road. The Jayhawks — like Louisville — have been rocking some customized D Rose kicks over the course of this season and now have a brand new collection at their disposal courtesy of adidas.

    Virginia Cavaliers

How does a team lose their best player in Joe Harris and come back to be even better? Tony Bennett has been one of the best coaches in the country and his philosophy on defense has definitely made them one of the most feared teams in the field.

The kick game ain’t bad, either.

    Arizona Wildcats

Somehow, the Arizona Wildcats season has been fairly quiet. They have as much talent as any team in the country and some major NBA prospects. When it comes to gear they are neck and neck with Kentucky. (Must be a Wildcats thing.) Arizona is a team known for rocking some serious customized signature PEs such as LeBron 12s and a slew of Kobes. Rondae-Hollis Jefferson and Stanley Johnson are some of the biggest sneakerheads in college basketball and you can bet they are going to be rocking some of the best sets of kicks in the tournament.

    North Carolina Tar Heels

The Tar Heels are some of the luckiest kids of America. They hoop at MJ’s alma mater, which is a key to a sneaker vault that the majority of us will never see. While they have been impressive wearing a wide range of customized Air Jordans, their season has been somewhat lackluster. March Madness is the perfect time for a team such as the Heels to breakout. Justin Jackson has so much talent and is going to be a star one day. Marcus Paige is one of the clutchest guys in the field and if UNC wants to go for it, all depends on him.

    Ohio State Buckeyes

D’Angelo Russell may just be the best guard in the country. Russell brings flare, outstanding vision, and is the reason why OSU is definitely a team to watch in the tournament. As we all know, LeBron didn’t actually attend Ohio State but has been adopted into the program as one of their own. As a LeBron-branded program the team has been wearing LeBron 12s throughout the season. But there partnership with LeBron hasn’t stopped some members of the team — such as Russell — from wearing the Air Jordan 13 Retro “Grey Toes.”

The NCAA tournament is one of the best sporting events every year. There is not an extended sports playoff that can match the intensity and drama the tourney brings. The College Football Playoff was exciting but it was only its first year. The Summer Olympics and World Cup are awesome but four years is too long of a wait for the average sports fan. The World Series has lost some attraction throughout the years. The NBA Finals comes close. Then there’s the Super Bowl, the only other event that brings it like this one. But when you are talking about a one-and-done setup in a field of 68, anything can happen. The drama, the heartbreaks, and the Cinderella teams are what makes the tourney so unique.

I know you guys have heard the saying “If you look good, you feel good.” Well in sports, If you look good, you play good. Some of the best contenders in the NCAA tournament will be rocking some of the hottest and latest gear. While there is no guarantee they will win the NCAA tourney, there are some teams who have been killing the sneaker game on the court this year.

Throughout the season we have wrote about 10 of college ball’s biggest sneakerheads as well as the seven players you can’t miss this year, and now it is time take a look at some of the teams you will have to keep an eye on when it comes to making a statement in both game and fashion.

Check in to find out which teams will be wearing the most heat during the biggest games. This is a preview of America’s Best Teams and Players Wearing the Most Heat This Year.
