These Are LeBron’s Best Games in the Nike LeBron 12 So Far

  • Cavs-Bulls, Halloween Night

    “Heart of a Lion”

LeBron’s first win in his second stint as a Cavalier came on Halloween night against a familiar foe. Derrick Rose has been absent for much of the last few seasons, but he was back and ready to welcome the Cavs to the United Center.

Things may have been a little too welcoming for James. While he didn’t have his usual efficiency – it’s pretty rare to see him take 30 shots! – he filled the box score in a 114-108 overtime victory. Going for 36 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals isn’t a bad way to get your season going, especially when you’re playing with an unfamiliar supporting cast.

  • Cavs-Pelicans, November 10

    White/Red PE, Grey/Blue PE

“LeBron carried the Cavs tonight” is a phrase you could use for years worth of old performances in the wine-and-gold. It was the same old story in this November meeting against Anthony Davis and Co., with James registering a near triple-double in the win against New Orleans.

His 32 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists almost undersells how important he was to the win. While LeBron was a plus-15 for the game, none of his fellow starters were better than plus-6. In a 40-minute rampage, LeBron buoyed bench units and brought the best out of his team, all while switching his sneakers halfway through the game.

  • Cavs-Celtics, November 14

    Black/Yellow PE

Despite insistence from some haters that LeBron doesn’t come through in big moments, he has consistently been one of the league’s best and brightest in crunch time during his career. This November matchup with the Celtics highlighted his killer instinct in the clutch yet again.

The 41 points (10 in the fourth) and seven assists are nice, but leading his team was the key here. Cleveland stormed back from 19 points back in the final frame to snatch one out of the fire.

  • Cavs-Magic, November 24

    “Heart of a Lion”

The wins weren’t coming easy early in the season, so Cleveland’s 106-74 victory over Orlando in late November was a welcome sight for a team trying to work out the kinks. You may recognize the formula for success from previous triumphs – let LeBron loose in transition and allow him to set up his teammates in the halfcourt.

It worked to perfection on this evening, as the King notched 29 points and 11 assists in a comfortable win, completing a couple violent dunks in the process.

  • Cavs-Raptors, December 9

    White/Yellow-Blue PE

The Raptors are as tough an out as any team in the Eastern Conference, a fact that was evident to the Cavaliers during their meeting on December 9. Thankfully, they had an exit strategy to rely on – you know, that whole “have one of the game’s all-time greats on your team” thing.

This one came down to the wire despite 35 points from James, but in the game’s pivotal moment, they knew where to turn. A top-of-the-key three from LeBron put Cleveland ahead for good, and put him in sole possession of most threes made in franchise history.

  • Cavs-Pelicans, December 12

    “Taxi” PE

Think LeBron likes playing against the Pelicans? Every team struggles to deal with James to some extent, but his dominance against New Orleans this year seems especially pronounced.

Bad news for LeBron – the Pelicans got revenge with a victory in this one. But No. 23 put in a spectacular performance that kept his team in it, putting up a 41-5-5 line on just 24 shots that ranks among the best individual performances of the year, LeBron or otherwise.

  • Cavs-Lakers, January 15

    Black/Yellow-Red PE

There’s always a little extra juice when LeBron and Kobe Bryant go head-to-head, and thankfully for hoops heads out there, Bryant was still going at it when their teams met in mid-January.

Kobe may be getting up there in age, but it’s still fun to see him stand across from LeBron and wonder what it’d be like to see the living legends meeting in the NBA Finals. James ramped it up for the L.A. lights as usual – how’s 36 points sound? – and some playful banter between the two future Hall of Famers added enjoyment to the evening.

  • Cavs-Wolves, January 31

    “Court Vision”

Can you tell we like duels? The evening was billed as Kevin Love’s return to Minnesota, where he was welcomed by raucous booing by his old fans. But the night quickly turned into a one-on-one battle between LeBron and a young Canadian who was close to being his sidekick.

Andrew Wiggins brought the best out of LeBron, with the pair dropping 69 points total in an awesome back-and-forth matchup. James emerged with the win and superior 36-6-5 line, doing it all in style with a snazzy pair of PEs. There was even a bonus sneakerhead inclusion – new teammate J.R. Smith rocked the BHM 12s almost a week before release. Perks of playing with the King.

The man alternatively known as King James has been killing it on the NBA hardwood for over a decade, and his dominance on the court has only been matched by his stature in the sneaker world. LeBron’s kicks are some of the most sought after sneakers in the game, combining form and function to pique the interest of the public. He’s even hinted at his realization of how global the game is, dropping colorways like the LeBron 9 Low Liverpool, named (and patterned) after England’s iconic club soccer team.

James’ new LeBron 12 “Double Helix” hits much closer to home and it’s dropping at Champs Sports this Saturday. Combining the Cavs wine-and-gold colors with a pink contrast that really pops, the name is an homage to the structure of DNA, hinting that Lake Erie and the city of Cleveland is embedded in his very existence. This isn’t the first in the 12 line drawing that connection – check out the “23 Chromosomes” edition if you can’t take my word for it. It’s the perfect release for his Cavs comeback, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s a dope colorway to boot. But you already knew that.

In celebration of another tight release from one of the game’s greats, we’re calling attention to some of James’ best performances in this year’s shoe — and no, we can’t use last night’s scintillating 42-point performance against Golden State because the King rocked the Ambassador 7 for the first time this season. Racking up Ws are important, but we’ll give ‘Bron a pass for some losses this year – things were still coming together with the new squad. Whether he won or not, the numbers and colorways in these games were all on point.
