Because of various issues with his injured right foot, Kevin Durant hasn’t been giving the time or space to properly defend his NBA MVP. He has played in just 27 games this year, averaging some of the lowest numbers of his career — although that probably has more to do with playing less extended minutes than normal as his PER is still third in the league — and the Thunder are predictably fighting for their playoff lives.
But despite all of that, despite his struggles replicating last season’s magic, Durant has shined through in one area: His sneakers. The Nike KD7 is, at worst, the third-best signature sneaker of Durant’s line, featuring a perfect mid-cut, the return of the mid-foot strap, and some outstanding colorways, the next of which (dubbed “Eel”) is releasing at Champs Sports on Thursday. So far this season, Durant hasn’t had much of a chance to play in them, though, in part through the injuries but also because as he has made his recovery, he has been wearing orthotic inserts in his shoes to combat the pain and provide support. Back in early December, Nike said the Nike KD VI was the best solution at the moment but that the designers were working to perfect the KD7 to accommodate Durant’s situation.
Durant might not be sporting his new shoe the same way LeBron James has, but he is still bringing the heat whenever he can, whether it’s last year’s version or his new joints.
Today, from his NBA All-Star Game kicks (shown above) to when he first broke out the KD7 in the preseason, we’re highlighting the Best Sneakers Kevin Durant Has Worn in the NBA This Season.
