Growing up in the 1990s, the original Air Jordan XIII was one of the most memorable sneakers from my childhood. Not only was it the shoe Michael Jordan wore throughout most of his final championship run–he didn’t debut the Air Jordan XIV until Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals–it was also highlighted in He Got Game. A classic basketball flick if there ever was one, He Got Game included a scene where Denzel Washington‘s Jake Shuttlesworth gets out of prison and makes copping the new Air Jordans one of his first stops. As a fifth grader just getting interested in basketball, I loved it. The XIII was flawless and elegant, a high performance sneaker that took a graceful form off the floor.

Featuring inspiration taken from MJ’s Black Cat nickname, the XIII has now been reimagined as the Jordan Horizon, a lifestyle sneaker from the Jordan Brand that sports the same shape and look of the sole unit as the original signature. Where this shoe differs is in the upper–now a mesh material–and the translucent outsole.
This shoe is definitely something we haven’t seen before and is available in two different colorways–grey and black–at Champs Sports. After the success of the Jordan Future, a lifestyle shoe that built off the XI’s already established legacy, it was only a matter of time before we got a sequel. That’s where the Horizon comes into play.
Even though they’ve been running the game for what seems like forever, Jordan Brand isn’t above following trends. See another look at the latest JB silhouette below.
