In 2014, there’s a predictable response to each Air Jordan retro release: You can bet that Instagram will be flooded with images of the new sneaker. Everyone wants to show off the new joints. Everyone wants to have the hottest timeline. That’s because in today’s sneaker culture, it’s never enough to just fit in. You have to stand out. It’s all a competition.
It happened again recently with the Air Jordan XIII “Baron” colorway. Releasing at Champs Sports, the white-based shoe took over the ‘gram, getting love from people all over the globe. It was the perfect marriage between the old school and the new, using some rather traditional colors and bringing them to the new generation with an unusual use of patent leather where the XIII normally rocks suede.
Now this Saturday we’ll see the XIII return to Champs Sports again, this time dropping in a “Grey Toe” (or “Cement Grey”) colorway that’ll have longstanding roots in Jordan Brand‘s Air Jordan line. This was rumored to originally be a sampled colorway WAY BACK WHEN during 1996 but was adjusted and never made it to the masses. Then in 2005 during the sneaker’s first run as a retro, JB brought the idea of a grey toe XIII out of the closest, releasing a shoe that was both well-received and not entirely what the fans were looking for, considering the red was much closer to maroon than traditional Chicago red. Now, finally, the grey toe is coming back in classic colors.
You can bet next week will include a lot of #jordan13 hashtags on the ‘gram. Get yourself ready. Make sure you’re ready to stunt. For now, here are Instagram’s Hottest Pictures of the Air Jordan 13.
