Under Armour has been on a mission since it started in Kevin Plank’s grandmother’s basement. And in true underdog spirit the brand has been pushing harder and harder to let the world know that they are serious in the sports apparel game. Seventeen years after starting out, UA is now a multi-billion dollar global brand and has signed some of the best athletes in the world. NBA MVP and NBA champion Stephen Curry was a diamond in the rough for the brand after Nike decided to not match UA’s offer. The sharpshooter is now set to release his second signature sneaker in his “Curry” sneaker line. Bryce Harper finally took that next step this year and is one of the best young hitters in the Major Leagues. And then there is Jordan Spieth, who recently was named the the No. 1-ranked player in golf.
As Under Armour continues to build its brand, they have made a strong effort on the grassroots level, especially in basketball with the Elite 24. The Elite 24 has quickly grown to be one of the best high school All-American games in the country. With Bobbito Garcia controlling the mic handing out nicknames and a tough NYC crowd, the Elite 24 atmosphere is second to none. This will be the first time many of these high scool kids play in a setting like this, so for them the big city will be a first. It will be a chance for them to showcase everything that makes them stylish.
The first nine years of the Elite 24 made stops at Rucker Park, Venice Beach, and the new home, the Brooklyn Pier. This weekend’s affair marks the 10th anniversary of this game, so UA is expected to bring out all of the stops to make it pop. That includes two quickstrike sneaker colorways that will be available at Champs Sports. Both options will be available to the players to wear in the actual game. First up is a red and lime version of the UA ClutchFit Drive 2 that sports a unique asphalt crack graphic across the upper. The second shoe is a low-top edition of the Curry One, fresh in varying shades of sky blue and orange, with orange speckles covering the midsole. As noted above, both of these are Elite 24 special editions.
Throughout the years we have seen legendary one-on-one battles and highlights and we are bound to see more as this event grows. Make sure you know the backstory, though. This is the History of the Under Armour Elite 24 All-Star Game.
