The 2004 Olympics were a disappointment as Team USA stumbled to its worst showing ever in international play but ‘Melo’s footwear selection was one of the only bright spots during an otherwise disastrous summer. Along with a customized pair of Olympic VIIs that featured ‘Melo’s name stitched on near the heel, he also wore an incredibly dope pair of AJ IIs. Featuring a slick red, white, and blue colorway on the classic AJ II silhouette, this Olympic PE is one of the cleanest pair of Jordans to never retail. Unfortunately, since the team underperformed during the Olympic it’s highly unlikely that Jordan would ever consider a retro for this PE.

    Air Jordan XII

    2004

Before Anthony was blessed with his own signature sneaker, he balled in an array of Air Jordan XIIs. None were as slick as the pair pictured here. For whatever reason, the powder blue used by Jordan popped and made the sneaker immediately stand out when ‘Melo took the court. The responses on the XIIs were so overwhelming that JB had no choice but to put out retail pairs.

Much like the Jordan XII, ‘Melo broke out numerous PE versions of the AJ II during his time with Denver. The AJ II looked great on the court under the bright lights thanks to the all-white base, and the simple-yet-effective color schemes dreamt up by Jordan really made the sneakers special in a subtle way. Different colorways of the AJ II ‘Melo PE retailed but none looked as crisp as the white and powder blue colorway worn by Anthony during Nuggets home games. Below is a look at the non-PE edition that was released to the public in April of 2004.

    Air Jordan XIII

    2005

Easily one of the best Jordan PEs of all-time, the ‘Melo XIII Away PE is an all-around beautiful sneaker. PE editions of the XIII have been popping up all around the league for over a decade, but none have done it better than Anthony’s version. Once again the blue meshes perfectly with the rest of the sneaker and the little details–the yellow on the bottom of the sneaker, “Carmelo” written across the tongue, and a yellow Jumpman logo–make this the cream of the crop when it comes to ‘Melo’s PEs.

    2008 NBA All-Star Game

The Jordan XX3 is, low key, one of the best signature looks in the Jordan catalog and unsurprisingly, Carmelo Anthony was given one its best PE versions. During the 2007-2008 season, ‘Melo wore an array of XX3s that were draped in Nuggets colors, but at the 2008 All-Star Game the elite scorer busted out a burgundy/white/gray colorway of the sneaker. With the All-Star Game logo on one tongue and the JB logo on the other, plus the North Carolina-influenced design on each side of the sneaker, the design looked amazing paired with the burgundy and gold uniforms. Carmelo did his thing on the court, too, finishing with a team-high 18 points and seven boards.

At 31 years old, Carmelo Anthony leads a life most men can only dream of. He is one of the best basketball players in the world, has a beautiful wife and family, enough money to set future generations of the Anthony family up for life, and a signature sneaker line with Jordan Brand. While most are envious of his wealth and stature, hardcore sneakerheads are jealous of the impressive array of Jordan player exclusives sitting in ‘Melo’s sneaker closet.

During his time in Denver, ‘Melo used his partnership with Jordan to build one of the best on-court collections in the NBA. Though he debuted his signature look in ‘04, ‘Melo continued to wear retro and current PEs on a regular basis. For years, ‘Melo would bring out exclusives that looked incredible with the Nuggets color schemes. With most featuring some sort of powder blue detail paired with a white base and yellow sprinkled in, the demand and attention became so high that a few pairs were released to the masses. His head-turning footwear choices carried over to the Olympics, too, where he paid homage to the boss with Olympic edition PEs.

Once traded to the Knicks, Carmelo put the retros in the stash and opted for his own signature look. While he occasionally broke out a pair of custom 1.5s, Anthony has stuck to his improving sig look, most recently the M11. Having just wrapped up his 11th season in the League, and on his 31st birthday today, ‘Melo boasts one of the top modern sneaker histories. Here is a look at some of Carmelo Anthony’s Greatest Player Exclusive Air Jordans.
