Okay, yes, statistically Calvin Johnson‘s season last year wasn’t one of his best. Detroit, as a team, had a great year, going 11-5 and finally making the playoffs before losing in a close game against the Dallas Cowboys in a NFC Wild Card Game. But Johnson’s down year amounted to just 71 catches for 1,077 yards and eight touchdowns. In fact, the 6-5 wide receiving beast was targeted just 128 times during the regular season, the least since his rookie year way back in 2007.
But in a weird way all of that only reinforces his status as one of the world’s most incredible athletes. When it comes to Johnson’s position in the NFL, it’s the former Georgia Tech star…and then everyone else is a mile behind. Just his presence alone is enough to turn secondary wideout options into stars.
While it wasn’t a particularly noteworthy year individually for CJ, at least for his standards, his signature trainer last year hit hard. And now, we’re finally getting the sequel, the Nike CJ81 Trainer 3. This one is probably the best pair yet.
Why? Well, firstly Nike made the smart move to release it in a lower profile, offering more versatility for the cats trying to rock this outside of the gym. They also ditched the front strap and added in the hexagonal Zoom Air pods on the outsole that became so synonymous with LeBron James‘ latest signature sneaker. Equipped with a number of different color options, this trainer will be one of the go-to choices for football players looking to make a splash in offseason workouts this year.
Will you be able to keep up? There’s only one way to find out. You’ll have to cop.
