We’ve seen some wild and jaw-dropping colorways of the newest trainer from Nike for Calvin Johnson. The CJ3 Flyweave Trainer has already seen the light in a launch edition that seemed like a cross between science and circus colors. Next came the “Georgia Peach,” relatively tame considering the standards. And then the “Paintball edition dropped. The best receiver in the game is definitely looking to get colorful this year, and Nike has his back. This “Baseball” edition, now available at Champs Sports, is the latest and definitely needs to be included on that list.
The game’s best receiver, and arguably the most dangerous weapon in any NFL locker room, deserves a product that can handle his explosive 6-5, 240-pound frame. Luckily for Johnson, the CJ3 Flyweave Trainer certainly passes that test. The shoe, obviously, considering the name, features Flyweave technology, as well as a breathable, flexible upper that includes lockdown Flywire cables. However, it’s off the field charm makes this one atypical for many football trainers out on the market. First, there is the Phylon midsole cushioning to help make this a smooth ride. Then, there are the iconic Zoom Air pods on the outsole that help not only with comfort but also with response and traction.
This “Baseball” edition is inspired by Johnson’s first love. More than five years before he ever started playing football, young Calvin was already in love with baseball, specifically his hometown Atlanta Braves, and this trainer sports distinct diamond shapes along the upper, as well as red stitching along the tongue. The heel is where it really pops, though, featuring more of the red stitching across a white cap.
With football training camps right around the corner at every level, add some spice and swag to the final weeks of your summer preseason work by copping what has to be on the short end of the toughest football trainers out this year.
