The sneaker culture is no longer a domain dominated by men. Sure, most of the more excessive sneaker collectors you’ll see out there, whether we’re talking about a guy from Detroit who owns an entire basement of Air Jordans or a guy from New York City who’s been doing this for generations. Those types of collectors are still around and thriving. But stylish females have forced the rest of the game to take notice over the past few years.
Case in point, Angela Rypien, who might have more sneaker heat than any female this side of Rihanna. Here’s the thing, though: You probably don’t know who Rypien is. You should. She’s the daughter of a Super Bowl MVP in former Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Rypien. (He won the MVP of Super Bowl XXVI against Buffalo.) She’s also been a big part of the Legends Football League, starting at quarterback in recent years for the Baltimore Charm as part of the league that — if this doesn’t get your attention, I don’t know what will — used to be called the Lingerie Football League. Just like her dad, the girl has a cannon for an arm and has been called the most prominent player in the league by The Baltimore Sun. She supposedly knocked out one of her own receivers with a pass during a game in 2013.
So we know the girl has some athletic talent, and definitely has the genes to back it up. But where she really excels is sneakers. Girl has more heat in her closet than you do, and it’s that collection that’s turning her into an Instagram celebrity. Right now, Rypien has over 14,000 followers, often entertaining them with pictures of her all over the globe, rocking exclusive and rare Air Jordans. She has the “Doernbecher” Air Jordan IV, as well as other classics like the Air Jordan V from the 2014 “Fear” pack. Every once in a while, she’ll don a Nike Basketball sneaker or something classic from Reebok, but for the most part she’s sticking to her bread and butter with Jordan Brand.
That’s called having a gameplan, and in 2015 it’s all about how you present yourself on the ‘gram. Rypien knows what’s up. It also helps that she looks really, really good. She doesn’t have to try very hard to impress.
