You know what I miss most about college? It’s not the basketball games or the cafeteria — I got lucky because our cafe was super lit — or even chilling with my homies playing NBA 2K and Call of Duty until 3:00 in the morning. It might actually be the slides…or at least everything that went with them. When I say everything, I mean waking up in the morning and just sort of rolling out of bed and going to class, looking like you just walked in off the beach or something. There was nothing better. Every morning that I slipped my slides on, then left the dorm in a long tee and some big basketball shorts — it was a different time, trust me — I felt like I couldn’t be touched.

It’s easy to rock these to the gym with your favorite basketball kicks. It’s next level to wear them somewhere else. I know it sounds corny, but you’d be surprised at some of the nonsense I’ve seen people try to do while rocking slides. Wear pants. Wear them with no socks. Wear them when the sun ain’t shining. I mean, come on. This is basic stuff right here, yet some people just can’t dress.

1. WEAR THEM WITH LOW BLACK SOCKS
I don’t typically mess with black socks. Just something about them, especially outside of the gym. However, if you are going to go against the grain, make sure you’re not rolling around with some long black joints. Even if the slides are black, it’s a better look to rock some black ankle socks. I’ve seen both ways and it takes some serious flavor to pull it off with some longer socks.
2. WEAR THEM WITH TALL WHITE SOCKS
The best look: Long white socks with some ill basketball shorts. It adds a little style while keeping it casual. This was one of my go-to looks while in college. The one thing to make clear here: I’m not saying rock this like Keith Van Horn. Keep the socks mid-shin and you’re golden.
3. WEAR THEM WITH SHORTS
As mentioned above, shorts are really your only option. It keeps you looking cool, like you might be on your way to the gym or might just be cooling out. The cats who wear slides with pants typically double-down and make it even worse by forgetting the socks and showing off the toes. Not cool. Seriously. Don’t even do that inside the dorm.
4. WEAR THEM ON CAMPUS
Honestly, if you’re currently a college student and don’t have this look in your rotation, you’re slipping. It’s a perfect mix of “I’m in shape because, look at me, I might be on the way to workout” and “I’m taking everything as it comes,” as well as “I’m not that dude who takes an hour to get ready.” Bring this look out one or two times a week and you’ll be feeling money.
