Jeter is completing a Hall of Fame career in New York, one of the biggest markets in the world, and there will be no shortage of lucrative opportunities waiting for him when he hangs up the laces for good. Affectionately known as “The Captain,” Jeter has the personality, the looks, and the following to generate interest in his post-sports life.

    Dwyane Wade

Wade, a three-time NBA champion, is one of the best shooting guards in league history. But the veteran guard has been known to entice referees into using their whistles to grant calls in his favor by “flopping,” which is a play on acting itself. Plus Wade has a strong fashion arsenal, strong personal image, and a good following of fans. A move into acting isn’t farfetched.

    Tom Brady

Options are aplenty for Brady when he decides to leave the game of football for good. Many speculate Brady would have an easy road to get into the political realm with his sparkling public image. Others say Brady could make a killing on the public speaking circuit or in the broadcast booth. However, Brady could just as easily make the transition to the glam and glitz of Hollywood.

Let’s be clear. Parsons wants his name etched among the NBA’s best. However, some would say the emerging forward also has his sights set on bigger exploits off the hardwood too.

    Rob Gronkowski

The Patriots tight end is a touchdown machine on the field and an Internet sensation off of it. From his infamous touchdown spike to his dancing, the big fella is an attention magnet. And Gronk just did a cover shoot with ESPN The Magazine where he posed with cats — not the first time he’s done a crazy shoot — and it was so wild that even Bill Belichick was trolling him about it. This dude definitely has the charisma to play a character in a movie.

You know the old adage. Actors would love to be professional athletes and those same athletes would jump at the chance to star on the big screen. Sports stars are often seen making cameo appearances on a variety of TV shows or movies, but for obvious reasons only a rare group of them are able to successfully make a full-time transition into entertainment.

Hopefully you’ve seen He Got Game. Denzel Washington. Spike Lee. And Ray Allen. Not only was it a spectacular movie, but Jesus held his own with some big heavyweights, helping to give his character an emotional depth that was necessary in a movie that dealt with so many personal and deeply-embedded issues. He’s not the only athlete to successfully make the transition to the big screen. There was Dan Marino in Ace Ventura. There was Michael Jordan, who starred in Space Jam, the highest-grossing selling sports movie of all time. Of course, we have the Rock too, who played football back in the day before eventually becoming one of the biggest and baddest actors in Hollywood.

In the end, both roles are in the limelight, in part because of talent but also because of charisma and swagger. To pull off either one — play professional sports or act in movies — you need a whole lot of confidence.

Want someone who could potentially defy the odds and make a lucrative living on the big screen? Here are 5 Athletes With Enough Swag to Star in Movies.
