Storytelling is a huge part of an athlete’s signature brand. Just look down the line of the Jordan Brand, LeBron’s or even Kobe’s madness that inspired the Kobe X. For Kevin Durant, his narrative took a slight turn last year as he battled with a Jones fracture in his foot that limited him to only 27 games last season. It was his worst year as a pro, despite making the All-Star team and putting up some respectable numbers.
On the court, KD shied away from wearing his KD7 silhouette from time to time after surgery. The shoes were beautiful by design but he started switching back to the KD 6 model because of extra padding he needed when playing.
